For a brief moment, it looked like LeBron James was on the verge of another headline-grabbing free agency announcement.
A link titled “LeBron James Introductory Press Conference” appeared on the Miami Heat’s YouTube channel and was scheduled for Monday, leading fans to wonder if the former MVP was taking his talents back to South Beach. But any excitement about a possible reunion was short-lived.
A spokesperson for the Heat told ESPN’s Shams Charania on Tuesday that the team’s social media department was preparing for the possibility of James’ signing and mistakenly posted the link to the team’s YouTube page. The post has been deleted.
The buzz was fueled in part by James’ history with the Heat. In 2010, he left the Cleveland Cavaliers to join Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh in Miami. James went on to win two NBA championships during his four seasons in Miami.
James is a free agent after announcing he would not return to the Los Angeles Lakers for the upcoming season. His agent, Rich Paul, continues to say he does not know when the star will make his decision.
