LOS ANGELES, Calif. () — “Chico’s Angels 2: Love Boat Chicas” brings a comedic murder mystery to the stage this summer, as the trio of Latina drag performers known as Chico’s Angels head to the high seas to investigate a plot against a celebrity performer.
The show follows Kay Sedia (the pretty one), Chita Parol (the smart one) and Frieda Laye (the “friendly” one) as they board The Love Boat to find out who is trying to kill super-star Charo.
After one of Charo’s back-up dancers is shot mid-performance, Charo realizes she is the killer’s intended target and hires the trio to track down the would-be assassin and protect her career.
As the investigation unfolds, the group discovers that nearly everyone on board has a possible motive.
The production runs through June 28 with performances Wednesday through Sunday, including Sunday matinees, at the Cavern Club Cabaret inside Casita Del Campo Restaurant.
Tickets are available at kaysedia.com.
The performers have built a cult following in Los Angeles over more than 20 years with their live stage productions.
Beyond the stage, Chico’s Angels have expanded into film festivals, with their mini-episode “24ish” touring nationally and receiving a nomination for best short at the San Francisco GLBT Film Festival, Frameline34.
The group has also received recognition at the Weho Awards and has appeared in various media outlets and productions.
“Chico’s Angels: Love Boat Chicas” is directed by Kurt Koehler and was co-created and co-written by Oscar Quintero and Koehler.
