They’re taking “doggy style” to the next level.
David’s Bridal has released its first-ever “Puppy Love Collection,” a range of pet-friendly tuxedos, blazers and crisp button-up shirts that launched on October 13. The collection aims to make Fido more fashionable as his owners trot down the aisle, and also includes tulle gowns and netted veils.
David’s Bridal CEO Kelly Cook expects that the line will get a paw-sitive response.
In a statement, she noted that couples were increasingly including dogs in their nuptials. (A recent Rover survey puts the number at 81%) “As a proud basset hound mom, I know they are family,” she added, calling the collection “something old, something new, something borrowed and something chewed.”
“We’re making sure the whole pack is ready for the big day,” Cook continued. “I can’t promise they won’t steal the spotlight, but at least they’ll be dressed for it!”
The fetch-ing looks cost $11, from an embroidered bandana to $65 for a two-piece suit with a matching baby blue bowtie, with puppy gowns averaging about $40 each — not bad considering the average cost of a New York wedding is nearly $54,000.
The pieces are both affordable and adorable — as long as your dog doesn’t freak out whenever you try to pull on clothes. (Pro tip: If your pup won’t wear her tiny puffer vest in the snow, she probably won’t settle into these outfits, either.)
For those whose dogs can handle getting dressed, David’s Bridal also promises they can recreate your own (human) wedding dress for your pet.
“A miniature interpretation of your wedding gown is exactly the kind of creative challenge our alterations team can bring to life,” said Lisa Horton, the bridal brand’s Chief Communications and Creative Officer. “Alongside the shoppable collection for dogs, we can create custom attire for any pet, drawing inspiration from a David’s gown or another designer’s look. It’s another way to see what our team can do beyond the traditional hem and bustle.”
There’s also a range of canine couture that’s now available on Etsy. The range of bespoke taffeta creations come from Miss Teddy, a Nottingham, UK brand by designer Sue Tostevin, who hand-sews Swarovski-studded evening gowns for dogs in the vintage style of Cristobal Balenciaga.
But just like at dog shows, the pedigree comes with a price: These custom dresses cost over $300, so you’ll have to sit, stay and roll over some funds.
Still, the pieces are beautifully made — and some pet owners won’t ever put a price on living yappily ever after.
