SIMI VALLEY, Calif. () — A man was taken into custody following a violent and apparent random attack inside a Target store in Simi Valley that was caught on video.
The incident unfolded around 6 p.m. Wednesday at the store on Tierra Rejada Road, according to the Simi Valley Police Department. Officers responded after a caller reported that a man had entered the store and immediately began choking a woman at a checkout counter.
Several bystanders, including a juvenile, jumped in to help the woman. That’s when police say the man began attacking them.
Video shows the suspect fought the people who came to the woman’s rescue.
The alleged attacker, identified as 34-year-old Rejean Tabor, was taken into custody without further incident. He had been released from jail less than 48 hours earlier.
The woman who was initially attacked was taken by her family to the hospital in stable condition. Police say she did not know the suspect.
Tabor is now facing multiple charges, including attempted murder and assault.
A teenager who started filming the attack says his father was one of the heroes who intervened.
“Once he started attacking my dad, I knew that there was something wrong,” Grant Garbe said.
“We just wanted to save her and help her out,” the teen’s father said.
Tabor is being held in Ventura County jail with bail set at $750,000. He is scheduled to be in court Monday.
