LOS ANGELES (CNS) — Coliseum officials are taking steps to keep fans cool during Saturday’s USC Trojans season opener, with the game-time temperature expected to be about 91 degrees.
The Trojans will host San Jose State on Saturday, with kickoff scheduled for noon.
“High temperatures are expected for this event. The Coliseum seating bowl has very limited shade available,” stadium officials cautioned on their website.
The Coliseum is permitting bottled water to be brought into the stadium with no restrictions on size or quantity, but bottles must be non- metallic. Refillable non-metallic water bottles are allowed, but must be empty upon entry, with refilling stations located near restrooms on the Concourse and Upper Concourse levels.
Other measures taken at Saturday’s game include:
— Free cups of ice for refillable water stations will be available at all permanent concession stands.
— Cool-air fans will run at all entrance gates.
— A shade tent with seating is available at First Aid Gate 1.
— Shaded areas are also available at Heritage Concourse (Level 1) and Olympic Plaza.
— Bags of ice are available at Guest Experience locations: Gate 1, Gate 11, Gate 23 and Upper Concourse 17.
— First Aid stations are located inside the venue at Gate 1 and Gate 16.
Officials noted that alcohol, coffee or soft drink consumption is not recommended.
Umbrellas are not allowed inside the Coliseum due to obstructing views and risk of injury to other guests.
Fans were also encouraged to wear light-colored and lightweight clothing, to wear sunscreen and sunglasses and to notify event staff immediately if they experience signs of heat illness.
USC is a 39-point favorite against the Spartans. The Trojans are coming off a 9-4 season in 2025 that ended with a 30-27 loss to TCU in the Alamo Bowl. San Jose State was 3-9 last season.
