BRAWLEY, Calif. () — A series of many earthquakes, including one 4.4-magnitude quake, rattled the Brawley area of Imperial County on Saturday evening, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The first quake, measured at 3.5-magnitude, struck nearly two miles west-south-west of Brawley, California, at 4:14 p.m., at a depth of just over eight and a half miles.
The quake was followed by a series of at least 11 additional earthquakes measuring 2.6 magnitude, 2.8 magnitude, 3.5 magnitude, 3.4 magnitude, 3.1 magnitude, 2.6 magnitude, 4.4 magnitude, 2.9 magnitude, 2.7 magnitude, 2.5 magnitude and 4.0 magnitude.
The largest, 4.4-magnitude earthquake struck at 7:22 p.m. at a depth of just over nine miles, according to USGS. It was first recorded at 4.1 magnitude, but USGS later updated the measurement.
The last earthquake was recorded at 8:13 p.m.
No injuries or damage were immediately reported.
The city of Brawley issued a statement, saying it is aware of the recent earthquake activity, and public safety personnel are actively monitoring conditions.
“At this time, there are no reports of significant damage or threats to public safety. However, residents are encouraged to remain alert and prepared, as aftershocks may occur,” the city wrote.
