Scenic California site ranked among best world travel destinations for 2027

A new list breaks down the 50 best travel destinations in the world for 2027 — and one remote California treasure made the cut.

Published by travel site Lonely Planet, the list included Redwood National and State Parks — a collection of Northern California preserves known for the iconic trees.

“Living in Northern California means there are redwood trees at the playground and in your friends’ backyards, but my family and I still drive the 6 hours north to marvel at the real giants, the tallest trees on earth in Redwood National and State Parks,” said Becca Hunt, a Lonely Planet editor.

“They’re breathtaking every single time, plus you get dramatic cliffsides and moody, foggy beaches. Wandering through the fern- and moss-laden forests feels like you’ve just gone back in time.”

Crowded during the summer months, the outlet recommended visiting the redwoods during the off-season between October and May, especially November, when the Redwood Parks Conservancy hosts its annual candlelight walk, which sees part of the park illuminated with glowing lanterns.

Just over the border from San Diego, Baja California’s Valle de Guadalupe also ranked among the best destinations to visit next year. The bustling wine region currently has over 100 wineries.

New Mexico also made the site’s list, which noted the state for its Old West charm and breathtaking landscapes like pristine white sand dunes White Sands National Park.

Up north, the list also recommended travelers see Alaska from above on a flight-seeing trip, or visit the beach on Prince Edward Island.

On the East Coast, Maryland was named one of the top destinations. The state stands out for its deep roots in U.S. history, as well as its seafood.

“Maryland mixes southern charm with savvy northern attitude, and a classic East Coast shoreline with western highlands that rise towards the Appalachian Mountains,” Lonely Planet wrote.

The list also includes Rose Island, a tiny 18-acre island in Rhode Island known for its iconic lighthouse, the Rose Island Light.

In the southeastern U.S., Lonely Planet also included Miami, Florida on the list.

The outlet recommends staying at one of the city’s sleek hotels including The Standard Spa, Andaz Miami Beach, and The Miami Beach EDITION.
