NORWALK, Calif. () — One person was killed and two others were injured in a violent crash believed to be caused by street racing in Norwalk overnight, authorities said.
The deadly incident happened shortly before 1 a.m. Tuesday on Rosecrans Avenue, between Studebaker and Pioneer boulevards, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
The sheriff’s department said some of those cars were racing at a high rate of speed just before the crash.
AIR7 was over the scene where at least four heavily damaged cars, including one that overturned, were left scattered across the roadway. Many parked vehicles were also hit.
More than a dozen cars were impacted in the wreck. It’s unclear exactly how many cars were racing and how many just happened to receive damage.
The condition of the people who were injured was unknown.
Residents who live in the area say they always hear street racing and takeover happening overnight, and added something needs to be done.
“They need to stop all this,” said Mario Gonzalez. “It’s just unbelievable that these guys can sometimes get away.”
