LOS ANGELES () — Councilwoman Nithya Raman and Mayor Karen Bass are doing everything they can to bring the large number of undecided voters to their side. And new polling from Berkeley IGS and the L.A. Times shows that number among Latino voters is at 34% — extremely high this close to an election.

“Working extremely hard going all around the city. Meeting in a lot of audiences with people who did not support me. in our conversation, if you contrast it with my opponent, people are frightfully concerned. It’s one thing to have big ideas, it’s another thing to have a track record. Somebody who has been in city hall twice as long as i have with very little to show for it,” said Bass.

7 caught up with Mayor Bass in the Westlake District on Friday where she was endorsed by the progressive group Pilipino Action Center, joined by councilwoman Ysabel Jurado. Bass’ campaign said their support shows her years of accomplishments for social and economic justice for immigrants and communities of color. But, that same poll shows the Latino community could be shifting to Raman. In the primary, Bass carried 35 of the city’s 43 Latino majority neighborhoods.

Zeroing in on likely Latino voters, the poll shows Raman is at 45% and Bass is at 21%.

“It’s completely different from our numbers and the numbers we’re seeing in the field. There is broad support because I have been involved in the Latino community for decades,” said Mayor Bass.

In a statement, Raman’s campaign said in part that “her campaign to make L.A. a city that works and lower the cost of living is resonating, especially as many Latinos have felt let down by the current administration. Nithya is an immigrant herself, and she has always stood alongside the Latino community – fighting for renters, lowering street vendor fees, authoring the sanctuary city ordinance, and more.”

Early voting is underway in the L.A. Mayor’s race and the final day of voting is November 3.
