Before playing a married couple on the NBC comedy Newlyweds, Téa Leoni and Tim Daly found love on another TV set.
Leoni and Daly got their individual sitcom starts on The Naked Truth and Wings, respectively. The duo later worked together on Madam Secretary — where they played love interests — and eventually started dating off screen
“I was like, ‘That’s a cool girl.’ Like, she’s a no-bulls***er,” Daly said on the “Really Famous With Kara Mayer Robinson” podcast in 2021. “She’s here to do this acting work, also. She’s not thinking about her position or anything like that.”
Daly assured fans the couple’s real-life relationship is “much better” than their onscreen romance.
The pair dated for over a decade before tying the knot in 2025. Daly later reflected on their strong connection, telling Us in 2026, “I mean, she looked at me, and she saw me. She just saw right into me, and it scared the hell out of me, actually, because all my defenses and walls came crashing down.”
He continued: “And there I was vulnerable and caught on her tractor beam. I can’t even understand. I’m crazy about her. It’s wild.”

Before they worked together, Daly and Leoni attended the same Vermont boarding school — years apart.
2014
Daly and Leoni officially met while starring on CBS’ Madam Secretary. The show introduced Leoni as a former CIA analyst who gets called up to the office of the Secretary of State. Daly played her husband.

The couple made their red carpet debut at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in April 2015.

Leoni and Daly returned to TV to play a couple on NBC’s Newlyweds. According to the official show synopsis, Newlyweds follows “a free-spirited woman and a buttoned-up professor who marry impetuously after a whirlwind courtship.”
