A mental health call in a Moreno Valley neighborhood ended with deputies shooting a man and leaving him in critical condition.

MORENO VALLEY, Calif. () — A mental health call in a Moreno Valley neighborhood ended with deputies shooting a man and leaving him in critical condition.

The incident unfolded around 4 p.m. Friday after deputies and a clinical therapist arrived at a home on Villa Hermosa to help the man who was reported to be in crisis.

While outside the home, authorities say the man walked outside and pointed a gun at deputies, prompting them to open fire.

The man was struck and taken to the hospital in critical condition. No deputies were injured.
