OXNARD, Calif. () — Newly-released video captured the moment police in Oxnard opened fire on a machete-wielding man inside of a restaurant.
The incident unfolded April 20 after officers responded to calls about a man swinging a machete in the area of Saviers and Pleasant Valley roads. When they arrived, they encountered the suspect, identified as Anastacio Meneses, inside the restaurant.
Police say several people were evacuated from the restaurant, but two employees were not able to get out.
Police are investigating after officers shot a man wielding a machete Monday afternoon in Oxnard.
Footage from inside the restaurant shows the suspect grabbing the machete, lifting up a table and start to approach the officers. That’s when one of them opened fire, causing him to fall to the ground.
However, Meneses gets up and charges at them again. They fired more shots and then sent in a K-9 to pull the man out. He was then taken into custody.
The police dog was struck by the machete, but has recovered and is back on duty. No one else was injured.
