SYLMAR, LOS ANGELES () — All westbound lanes of the 210 Freeway in Sylmar are closed after an officer reportedly fired shots on the freeway while responding to an attempted carjacking on Tuesday afternoon.
The closure is on the westbound 210 Freeway at the Polk Street overpass. Traffic is being diverted onto the 118 Freeway. The eastbound 118 Freeway transition to the westbound 210 Freeway is also closed due to the police activity.
AIR7 flew above the scene, where standstill traffic stretched at least four miles into Sun Valley.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, officers responded to a report of a man with a gun in the middle of an attempted carjacking at the Polk Street overpass. It’s unclear what exactly unfolded, but at some point, an officer fired shots.
A suspect was taken into custody, and a gun was recovered.
AIR7 video shows a man being placed in handcuffs at the scene. He was later loaded into an ambulance by first responders. It’s unclear what injuries he may have sustained. It’s also unknown if the man returned gunfire.
LAPD noted that no officers were injured and no cars were struck by gunfire.
