Another cherished Los Angeles restaurant is biting the dust — and this one has left the city’s brunch crowd heartbroken.

The Sycamore Kitchen, a longtime La Brea Avenue favorite known for knockout pastries, sandwiches, and casual power breakfasts for Hollywood types, has abruptly announced it will close after 15 years in business.

The popular neighborhood haunt, which helped transform a once-sleepy stretch of La Brea near the Fairfax area into a destination for coffee and daytime dining, broke the news on social media yesterday.

“After 15 incredible years it’s time for us to say goodbye,” they wrote in a statement shared on Instagram.

“While we are closing our doors here we are looking forward to what’s next. Stay tuned.” The restaurant did not give a reason for the sudden shuttering, saying only that its final day would be sometime this week.

Over the years, The Sycamore Kitchen became a go-to for everything from morning java runs to leisurely patio lunches, and remained a lively fixture even as LA’s restaurant industry struggled with rising costs and a seemingly endless wave of closures.

Despite its enduring popularity, though, owners are pulling the plug — and longtime fans are not taking the news well.

“Truly devastating! One of my favorite spots in LA for many many years,” one heartbroken customer commented on Instagram. “I’ll never find a Cobb salad like the one from Sycamore Kitchen.”

For some devoted fans, the restaurant was such a draw that it actually influenced where they chose to live.

“Literally moved to this neighborhood so I could walk to this place for lunch every weekend,” one person responded. “This is heart breaking.”

“This hurts so much,” another lamented on Reddit. “I moved to my neighborhood partially because I saw we’d be walking distance to sycamore kitchen. We go there weekly!”

Others were stunned by the seemingly out-of-the-blue announcement, particularly because the bustling cafe showed no signs that its days were numbered.

The loss is especially tough for residents who watched the eatery help transform a formerly desolate commercial strip.

“I’m devastated by this news,” another wrote. “What a special café and such a cornerstone of our La Brea neighborhood. Thank you for everything you’ve given this community over the years.”

Longtime patrons also swapped memories of favorite dishes, familiar faces, and the restaurants place in LA’s culinary history. “Bummer. I used to see J Gold (RIP) there every so often,” one commenter wrote, referring to the late Pulitzer Prize-winning LA Times food critic Jonathan Gold, who raved about the turkey sandwich, BLT, potato chips, bakery items and more.

A GoFundMe campaign has been created to support the staff of Sycamore Kitchen on La Brea after the restaurant announced its sudden closure. GoFundMe

The restaurant’s sudden demise is also raising uncomfortable questions about the fate of its long term employees. A GoFundMe campaign launched on Tuesday aims to raise $11,000 to help staffers left scrambling by the closure.

“Since opening in 2012, the restaurant has been more than just a workplace for its employees,” the fundraiser stated. “For some team members, it has been home for over a decade.”

Organizers attributed the shutdown to a difficult “economic climate and the hardships of running a business,” although owners did not publicly detail the reasoning for the closure, and did not respond to The Post’s request for comment.
