IndyCar driver Jack Harvey announced he’s been diagnosed with cancer — but it’s not keeping him away from the track.

“Life has delivered a new fight to my doorstep,” Harvey, 33, shared via Instagram on Tuesday, October 13. “I have recently been diagnosed with cancer. My goals for 2027 have not changed. I plan to be on the grid in St. Pete and strapping back into a race car this May in preparation for the Indy 500.”

The 2027 IndyCar season begins with the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg in Florida in March.

Harvey said he’s currently receiving “excellent care” and lauded the support team around him. He did not specify what type of cancer he has been diagnosed with.

“My entire career has been about fighting for what’s next,” Harvey wrote. “The next opportunity. The next chance to prove myself. The next time I could get back in the car and show what I’m capable of. There have been plenty of moments when the path forward was obvious, and plenty when it wasn’t. I’ve had to earn opportunities, fight to keep them, and learn how to keep moving when things didn’t go the way I planned.”

He added, “But through all of it, I’ve never stopped believing that there was something worth fighting for.”

“I’ve never backed away from a challenge in my life and this circumstance is no different,” Harvey concluded his post. “So…let’s fight.”

Harvey received an outpouring of support from the racing community after announcing the news.

“You got this brother 💪🏻💪🏻❤️❤️,” driver Marcus Ericsson commented on his post.

Conor Daly wrote, “We’re with you bro, you got this 💪.”

“You got this brother, we are will you all the way  💪🏻👊🏻,” commented 2013 Indy 500 champion Tony Kanaan.

Indianapolis Motor Speedway honored Harvey on Tuesday, displaying a message of #JackStrong, which they posted on social media.

“Together in the fight,” the iconic track shared via Instagram.

In recent years, Harvey has multitasked as a driver and one of Fox Sports’ pit reporters. Harvey interviewed legendary late night host David Letterman at IndyCar’s stop in Milwaukee in August, which Harvey shared on social media. (Letterman, 79, is co-owner of the Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing IndyCar Series team.)

“I’m not insulted that you only come talk to me when you need to kill some time,” Letterman joked to Harvey. “By the way, you do such a tremendous job. I think the guys in the booth oughta be worried.”
