Amanda Batula’s controversial relationship with Summer House costar West Wilson could drastically affect a potential second season of In the City, a source exclusively tells Us.
“There is still some tension surrounding West,” the insider claims, hinting at what could be an icy reception from other costars. “If Amanda returns for a second season of the show, the cast would not be particularly welcoming toward him. They aren’t friends with him in real life. They don’t like himbecause of what happened with [him and] Ciara [Miller]. They are friends with Ciara and Kyle [Cooke] and have loyalty to them.”
The source adds that Amanda’s In the City costars “have no interest in befriending him, even for Amanda.”
Bravo has yet to officially renew the series for a second season, meaning production would likely not begin until fall if the show does get greenlit.
Amanda filmed In the City season 1 shortly after wrapping Summer House season 10 last year. On the heels of the first season of the Bravo spinoff, Amanda, 35, and estranged husband Kyle, 43, announced in January that they separated after four years of marriage. Amanda and West, 31, confirmed their casual romance just two months later, denying any relationship overlap.
West previously dated Amanda’s close friend and their costar Ciara, 30, who claimed that she was blindsided by the reveal. Kyle, for his part, was also taken aback by West and Amanda’s romance.
“Kyle always knew Amanda would eventually move on, but he never imagined it would be with a castmate or anyone within their own circle,” a second source previously told Us in March. “The idea of her dating a castmate is something he’s really struggled to wrap his head around.”
He addressed the complete and utter shock he felt in a June interview, telling People. “Sometimes it doesn’t feel real until I see them together. I considered West a really good friend, and this is just not something I can fathom doing to anybody that’s close to me.”
Amanda later announced during the In the City reunion, which aired on Bravo in July, that she is still involved with West.
“Amanda may not be on the show next season and Bravo may want her to take a break for a bit,” the insider adds to Us. “No one in the cast is still really speaking to them, besides Kyle and Amanda, who are cordial and continue to have love and respect for each other.”
Neither Amanda nor West will be a part of Summer House season 11 amid the scandal fallout.
Bravo executive Josh Brown recently noted that it is “too early to say” whether Amanda would be welcomed back to a potential sophomore season of In the City.
“If I’m being honest, I think it’s too early to talk about that. We just finished airing the season, but we always approach things organically and by the facts on the ground,” Brown told The Hollywood Reporter in July. “Anything’s always possible, but there’s no plans for anything at this time about anything I should say, just because we’re still reacting to finishing airing the season. We’re getting our heads around where we go from here, so it’s too early to talk about casting for season 2.”
According to Brown, he has not yet had a discussion with Amanda about potentially returning for In the City.
“We are so appreciative of everything she’s done so far, and we really care about her,” the Bravo exec told the outlet. “But it’s just too early to be having any talks like that. It’s premature.”
As for Amanda, the source tells Us that she’s “happier now” in her relationship with West and separated from Kyle.
“She hopes to still remain friends with Kyle and mend her friendships with the cast of In The City,” the insider adds, noting that the now-exes are “moving forward” with their divorce and the Loverboy founder’s lawyer sent “walk-away” terms as part of the process.
In addition, the source notes that Amanda and West haven’t said that they are in love, but the pair “really like each other” and are “enjoying dating” one another.
“It’s more like they’re falling in love while dating,” the source tells Us. “They’re in a place where they’re dating, really enjoying each other, and genuinely like one another. For now, their focus is simply on spending time together and seeing where the relationship goes, without putting pressure on it or making major plans for the future.”
Amanda and West recently sparked pregnancy rumors, which multiple sources have debunked to Us.
“Amanda is not pregnant. However, she’s expressed that she could potentially see herself having children with West in the future,” the insider states. “They are not actively trying to have a baby right now.”
