DUBLIN, Calif. — A Dublin, California man was shot and killed Saturday afternoon in a parking lot near a popular sports complex, and police say the suspects are his 77-year-old in-laws.
According to police, 40-year-old Jonathan McKinsey of Dublin was fatally shot in the parking lot of Dublin Sports Grounds, about a block away from the police department. Authorities said the suspects, a husband and wife who are both 77 years old, were taken into custody. Police have not released a motive.
The New York Times confirmed that McKinsey was their Director of Engineering for New York Times Games.
San Francisco affiliate KGO spoke with several people who saw what happened.
Assad Razawi said he was leaving Sahara Market on Dublin Boulevard when he heard gunshots coming from the Dublin Sports Grounds parking lot.
Razawi said he then saw the victim collapse.
“I saw the guy drop to the floor: head bloody and chest bloody,” he said.
According to Razawi, he also saw two people he later learned were suspects leaving the area.
His daughter, Mal Razawi, described what her father witnessed.

“He said the man and woman and walking together and they casually walk away from the shooting,” she said.
Police said a sergeant who was driving nearby saw a man lying on the ground. Authorities said the victim had been shot several times.
Officers responding to the scene located the two suspects in a black sedan at a nearby intersection, police said. A witness captured a photograph showing the male suspect in handcuffs.
Investigators later identified the suspects as McKinsey’s in-laws. Authorities have not said what led to the shooting.
The couple is being held at Santa Rita Jail.
The incident has left some residents stunned.
“That’s crazy. You don’t hear of these stories in Dublin,” Mal Razawi said. “I was shocked. The whole thing is baffling. Personally, we don’t hear of crime that often in Dublin.”
Police have not released additional information about a possible motive.
