LOS ANGELES — The soccer field just became a battleground for dragons and beings with magical powers!
In “Dragon Striker,” farm boy Key discovers he has the hidden powers of a dragon and uses his abilities to become a standout player in Gorotama, a magical soccer-like sport.
Set at Kal Asterock, an elite school for students with extraordinary abilities, Key teams up with goalkeeper Ssyelle to take on the school champions and prove he belongs among the best players on the field.
Akshar Kumar stars as the energetic young athlete who is always trying to make people laugh.
“I think he’s one of those characters who tries to be funny a lot, but I think he is kind of the butt of the joke,” he shared with On The Red Carpet.
“In my life, in my family, I am the butt of the joke, so that was quite normal for me.
Kumar said the series is packed with action, emotion and plenty of larger-than-life moments.
“It’s a journey of self-discovery, it’s a journey of identity, of insane amounts of energy and what it means to be a supercharged kid in a school of supercharged kids.”
“It’s rivalries, friendship, love, heartbreak, defeat, victory, it’s all of those things.”
Beneath the action and fantasy, the story also explores deeper emotional themes as Key and Ssyelle uncover an ancient evil from the past.
“Maybe people don’t really expect that from a teen, YA (young adult) show, but it’s so deep emotionally as well, all the characters really go through it,” he added.
“Identity and friendship are really strong themes in it. For that, I think that was the most powerful, the connections between chosen family.”
All episodes of “Dragon Striker” stream June 10 on Disney+ and Hulu.
The Walt Disney Company is the parent company of Disney+, Hulu and this station.
