TORRANCE, Calif. () — A police chase involving a speeding Corvette ended with a dramatic crash in the city of Torrance Thursday night.
It appears the pursuit began in Orange County and quickly involved high speeds as California Highway Patrol officers chased the suspect on the 5 Freeway before transitioning to the westbound 91 Freeway and then to the 110 Freeway.
The pursuit then took to surface streets in Compton and Torrance where, at one point, the suspect pulled into a gas station before taking off again as CHP officers tried to box him in.
The chase ended near Sepulveda Boulevard and Hawthorne Boulevard in Torrance after the suspect crashed into a tree, which then fell down, trapping and preventing the Corvette from moving.
Officers quickly surrounded the vehicle and took the driver into custody. The driver could be seen talking on the phone moments before he was taken into custody.
It was not immediately known what the suspect was wanted for.
No further details were immediately known.
This is a developing story. This article will continue to be updated as more information becomes available.
