PINON HILLS, Calif. () — Crews battled a brush fire in Piñon Hills that forced a temporary closure of Highway 138 Thursday.
The fire was reported at about 5 acres in size and later grew to 10 acres.
Cal Fire said the blaze was threatening structures at one point, but crews reported stopping the blaze’s forward rate of spread just before 4:30 p.m.
No structures were damaged.
Highway 138 was closed in both directions from Evergreen Road to Desert View, according to Cal Fire.
Just before 8 p.m., fire officials said Highway 138 was reopened and that containment of the blaze was at 10%.
“Crews will remain engaged through the night, strengthening containment lines and extinguishing hot spots,” Cal Fire said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
