Southern California residents have a ticket to ride — all the way to the coast and back, just in time for summer.
A seasonal Beach Bus service connecting Antelope Valley to Santa Monica officially returned on Monday, giving residents in Palmdale and Lancaster a cheap escape from the high desert heat for less than the price of a fast-food combo meal.
The service, operated by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works and backed by LA County Supervisor Kathryn Barger, offers round-trip rides to Santa Monica for just $6 for adults and children, while seniors and riders with disabilities can hop aboard for $2.
“Every family in the Antelope Valley deserves a day at the beach, and the Beach Bus makes that possible,” Barger said in a statement.
The buses began operating again on Memorial Day and will continue running on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays through Labor Day weekend on September 7.
County officials are urging residents to reserve seats in advance due to high demand during peak summer weekends.
With Santa Monica parking rates at the beach reaching $15 on weekends during the summer season, the bus may end up being one of the hottest deals in LA this summer.
