ARCADIA, Calif. () — A teenage girl was killed Thursday morning after authorities say a 20-year-old man she had been dating “forced entry” into an Arcadia residence and shot her.

The suspect, identified as Paul Anthony Cruz Jr., then fled to Pasadena where he shot himself as officers were “preparing to contact him,” the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release.

The teen victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity has not been released.

At about 11 a.m., Arcadia police responded to the 800 block of West Huntington Drive regarding a disturbance. A caller reported that a man inside a residence had fired a gun, according to the Arcadia Police Department.

“When officers arrived, the man had fled the scene, and officers discovered a juvenile female suffering from a gunshot wound,” Arcadia police said in a news release.

Video from the scene showed part of a glass balcony door shattered as an investigation unfolded at an apartment complex.

Arcadia and Pasadena police were also investigating the second shooting at South Arroyo Parkway and East Glenarm Street where crime-scene tape blocked off a parking lot near a Petco and other businesses.

Pasadena city spokesperson Lisa Derderian said the suspect died from the self-inflicted gunshot wound after being transported, but L.A. County sheriff’s officials said the man remains in critical condition. Eyewitness News was working to get an update on the suspect’s condition.

Workers from an auto shop across the street told Eyewitness News that they heard a shot, then ran outside to see police officers approach a person to handcuff him.

“We look out the window, there’s this guy, he’s laying face down on the floor. A couple seconds later, police officers show up and they close off the area,” said Michael Amini, manager at Alliance Auto Body Works.

The initial shooting occurred just after 11 a.m. Authorities said the second shooting involving Cruz occurred about one hour later.
