Three California kitchens cracked the top 12 in a new list of the top 100 pasta places in the U.S., based on Yelp reviews.
Family owned Assenti’s Pasta in San Diego ranked seventh on the list, making it the only restaurant along the west coast to make it into the top 10.
Founded by Adriana Assenti and her sons, current owners Roberto and Luigi, the Little Italy restaurant is known for its fresh, handmade pasta and sauces.
The beloved eatery has a 4.7 rating on Yelp based on 255 reviews.
“This family-owned spot has been a staple in the community forever, and for good reason. The owner and staff truly care about their craft, and it shows in every bite,” writes Yelp reviewer Tawny V. “Whether you’re craving fresh pasta, gnocchi, or something more adventurous, like their house-made sauces (Puttanesca is my fave), Assenti’s never disappoints.”
Etto Pastificio in Paso Robles fell just outside of the top 10, coming in at #11. The two-pronged business comprises of a restaurant and retail pasta shop selling what they call “America’s finest craft pasta.”
Customers rave over the shop’s many options, including frozen pasta, fresh pasta, baked goods, and desserts. Etto also offers pasta factory tours at its Paso Robles manufacturing location.
“It’s a great place to pick up high quality ingredients to make tasty authentic Italian food at home, find great gifts for friends and family, or get a tasty snack for yourself,” Yelp reviewer Judy C. said.
Right behind Etto at #12 is Simply Pasta in Union City. As its name suggests, the Bay Area eatery serves simply pasta, but with endless combinations where you can pair your favorite noodle with sauces, toppings, and protein of your choice.
Customers especially love their fettuccine alfredo.
“An unexpected GEM! I’ve ordered from here a few times, and every time I’m impressed by the HUGE portions and the quality for the price point,” Yelp reviewer Vannessa M writes.
“The Alfredo is super garlicky, creamy, and delicious, and the Seafood Galore was packed with so many baby scallops and clams , way more than I expected. I honestly thought the portion and amount of seafood would be smaller given the price, but this place completely surprised me.”
