KOREATOWN, LOS ANGELES () — A woman was killed in a violent crash near an intersection in Koreatown, and the driver believed to be responsible for collision was detained Friday.
The deadly incident unfolded 12:30 a.m. as the driver of a Mercedes Maybach SUV who was traveling southbound on Ardmore Avenue hit another car driving westbound on 8th Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
That second car spun out of control and hit a pole. The driver, only identified as a woman in her 30s, died at the scene.
Police say the Maybach driver continued off the road, hitting a street light and several parked cars before ending up on the sidewalk. A fire hydrant was sheared in the collision, sending water shooting high into the air.
Police at the scene said the driver of the Mercedes is believed to be responsible for the deadly and destructive crash. It’s unclear if she will be arrested and face charges.
Video from the scene showed another woman being loaded onto an ambulance, but it’s unclear if she was the driver of the other vehicle.
Additional details about what led up to the crash were not available but it is under investigation.
