JAMAICA, Queens (W) — A passenger on a Caribbean Airlines flight went into labor and gave birth as the plane approached JFK International Airport this weekend, the airline said.
Flight BW005 from Kingston, Jamaica, landed at JFK just before noon on Saturday.
The mother and newborn baby were attended to by medical personnel after landing to receive necessary care.
In recordings from ATC.com, the pilot can be heard telling the controller they have a pregnant passenger who went into labor and requesting medical personnel at the gate.
In another ATC recording, the ground controller asks if the baby is out yet and then suggests that the baby should named Kennedy.
In a statement, Caribbean Airlines said, “The airline commends the professionalism and measured response of its crew, who managed the situation in accordance with established procedures, ensuring the safety and comfort of all onboard.”
The airline said no emergency was declared during the flight.
