WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. () — Authorities Tuesday released more details about the arrest of a suspect accused of severely beating a valet at the famed Barney’s Beanery restaurant in West Hollywood in a seemingly unprovoked attack.
Dorian Michael Gray, 28, was arrested Friday and was being held without bail, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and jail records.
Efrain “Frankie” Zarazua was attacked around 10:30 p.m. Sept. 14 outside the restaurant at 8447 Santa Monica Blvd. Surveillance video of the attack shows the shirtless assailant knocking Zarazua to the ground then stomping and repeatedly kicking him in the head.
The attack was carried out for no apparent reason and left the popular longtime valet in critical condition. Detectives say he’s still recovering from his injuries.
Detectives say Gray assaulted seven people in five different attacks, all in the span of 10 minutes along a half-mile stretch of Santa Monica Boulevard. Those victims suffered injuries ranging from bruising to facial fractures.
Surveillance video helped detectives identify the suspect. Over the past weekend, deputies spotted Gray – one month after he allegedly went on the rampage.
Sheriff’s officials said Gray was booked on suspicion of attempted murder, battery and assault with a deadly weapon. The investigation was being presented to the District Attorney’s Office for consideration of criminal charges.
Detectives say Gray has a criminal history in the city of Los Angeles.
The detectives who spotted Gray and took him into custody are part of a team of officers with the West Hollywood sheriff’s Entertainment Enforcement team – a group of deputies in charge of keeping an eye on busy areas.
