THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. () — A team of Ventura County firefighter paramedics delivered a baby boy in the back of an ambulance Thursday morning after responding to a call about a woman in “imminent labor” on the southbound 23 Freeway.

When crews arrived, the found the woman already experiencing active labor.

Paramedics moved her safely into the ambulance and began transporting her with lights and sirens toward a nearby hospital.

During the drive, the woman began a second round of contractions, and a healthy baby was born just minutes into the trip.

“Usually, we’re there on people’s darkest days and we see kind of the worst of the worst in our job, so it’s definitely a great change for us to celebrate the bringing a new life into the world,” firefighter paramedic Jared Gray said.

Later that day, firefighters visited the mother with flowers to congratulate her and welcome her newborn son, Andre.
