UNIVERSITY PARK, LOS ANGELES () — Students living near the University of Southern California are being advised to look out for a man pretending to be a representative of a building management company.
A USC Department of Public Safety (DPS) alert said he entered homes in the 1100 block of 28th Street and 2600 block of Orchard Avenue, claiming he was there to repair a water leak.
According to the alert, the man entered the residents’ rooms and began asking inappropriate personal questions, including inquiries about their romantic relationships.
In one case, the man reportedly took the key fob to a resident’s car but later returned it.
USC DPS released photos of the suspect to help warn students to look out for him.
So far, the man’s identity is still unclear, and no arrest has been made.
Authorities say residents should exercise caution when anyone requests entry to their residence. Residents should verify the person’s identity by contacting the building management company directly and contact DPS immediately at (213) 740-4321 (UPC) or (323) 442-1000 (HSC) if they feel unsafe or uncertain about someone’s legitimacy.
