UConn men’s basketball coach Dan Hurley is on a Hall of Fame trajectory after leading the Huskies to back-to-back national championships in 2023 and 2024. But ask any UConn fan and they’ll tell you that his wife, Andrea Hurley, has been critical to the Huskies’ success.
It’s Andrea who talks her husband down after his emotions get the best of him on the sideline, as well as the one who makes sure he has his lucky dragon underwear at the ready before NCAA Tournament games.
She even made headlines during the 2026 Final Four, when she left Lucas Oil Stadium just before tip-off to rush back to the hotel and grab her husband’s lucky holy beads that he wears around his wrist during games, returning to the stadium with a police escort.
It paid off, as UConn held off a rally from the University of Illinois to return to the championship game for the third time in four years.

1991-96
Dan and Andrea Hurley met when the two attended Seton Hall University, where Dan played basketball under legendary head coach P. J. Carlesimo. Dan’s basketball career was rocky, and he had to take a leave of absence from the team his junior year to focus on his mental health. He relied on Andrea and the rest of his family to help him through that difficult time.
“It’s like, by far, the best thing that happened to me at Seton Hall,” Dan said of meeting his wife. “But that was the thing that saved my life when I met her and changed my life and made me want to be better.”
1997
A year after graduation, Dan and Andrea Hurley were married.

1999

The couple welcomed their first son, Danny, in 1999. Rather than pursuing a basketball career, Danny currently works in politics as an aide to Democratic New Jersey state senator Nicholas Scutari.
2002
Andrea and Dan Hurley welcomed Andrew in 2002. He eventually followed his dad to UConn, where he was a walk-on on the basketball team, ending the 2024 national championship game with the ball in his hands. He is currently a graduate assistant for the Huskies.
2010
After beginning his coaching career in the high school ranks, following in the footsteps of his Hall of Fame father Bob Hurley, Dan took his first college head coaching job at Wagner University.
It was a change that transformed his job into a 365-day-a-year commitment, complete with endless travel and nights away from his family.
“I stayed in high school coaching longer than I needed to for Danny Jr. and Andrew,” Dan told FOX Sports in 2023. “I wanted to be a parent that gave them love and time, to set an example for them. I did the Little League games, the Pop Warner, the CYO matchups. That all meant something to me.”

2018
Dan Hurley spent two seasons at Wagner before the University of Rhode Island came calling in 2012. After successfully leading the Rams to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances, UConn hired him, asking him to rebuild the once proud program.
He was named UConn head coach in March 2018, leading them back to the tournament in 2021. The Huskies haven’t missed the Big Dance since.
2021
Dan and Andrea Hurley’s eldest son, Danny, graduated from Seton Hall in 2021 with a degree in history.
“I still can’t believe my baby graduated college today,” Andrea wrote via Instagram at the time. “Seton Hall was the perfect fit and I’m so grateful for all his positive experiences and friendships he made. We couldn’t be prouder of our SHU Pirate!”

Andrew Hurley graduated from UConn in May 2024, one month after the team captured its second straight championship. Andrea Hurley celebrated the moment via Instagram, posting a photo of Andrew in his cap and gown at Gampel Pavilion, where the Huskies play their on-campus home games.
“So many great memories in this building and today goes right to the top,” she wrote. “Congratulations @andrewhurley20 ..we couldn’t be prouder!”
June 2024
Two months after leading UConn to its second straight championship, Dan Hurley turned down a lucrative offer to coach the Los Angeles Lakers.
Andrea Hurley played a critical role in the decision, with Dan saying she was “angry” and “moved to tears” when she first heard her husband was talking to the NBA franchise.
Andrea later recalled her conversations with Dan to WFSB.
“And I was just like, ‘No, this is amazing, but we have our kids at home,” she said. “How do we leave kids that just won back-to-back championships? How about all these new babies that are coming in that could have went anywhere, and they chose to come here to play for Danny?’”
