Trial began today over the LAPD training accident where Officer Houston Tipping died.
The parents of Officer Tipping are suing the police department and another officer. They say in 2021, Tipping had started an internal affairs investigation into fellow LAPD officer David Cuellar after a woman said Cuellar sexually assaulted her.
Both officers were assigned to the same LAPD training class, and that is where Tipping’s parents say Cuellar ended up killing their son in a grappling exercise.
The city attorney says Cuellar never intentionally hurt Tipping and did not sexually assault the woman.
