DEVORE, Calif. () — Flames spread to nearby brush and ignited a wildfire that was threatening structures Saturday afternoon after a fiery crash involving two semitrailers on the 15 Freeway in Devore, officials said.
The collision occurred shortly before 12:30 p.m. on the northbound side of the freeway, near Kenwood Avenue, according to a California Highway Patrol incident log. At least one person was injured.
Both big rigs and a utility pole were engulfed in flames, the CHP said, prompting a SigAlert and the closure of the northbound side of the freeway. One of the trucks overturned in the crash.
Cal Fire and San Bernardino County firefighters responded to the scene, where officials said 5 acres burned amid a moderate rate of spread. At 1:32 p.m., Cal Fire said the flames’ forward progress had been halted.
The cause of the crash was unknown.
No estimate of the duration of the lane closure was given.
