Sticky mess on 10 Freeway in Fontana causes major traffic delay after semi-truck full of syrup overturns

FONTANA, Calif. () — Crews are working to clean up a massive mess on the 10 Freeway in Fontana after a semi-truck overturned, spilling a truckload of syrup across all lanes.

It happened in the westbound lanes of the 10 Freeway at Citrus Avenue around 11:20 a.m.

By the late afternoon, the truck had been removed, but syrup was still oozing across the mainlanes of the freeway.

AIR7 flew above the scene, where a major backup extended more than five miles to the east — all the way to Colton — after all westbound lanes were closed. Traffic was being directed off the freeway at Citrus Avenue.

Caltrans was working to clean up the sticky situation, laying down sand and waiting for a water tender to spray down the freeway. Drivers should avoid the area as the time-consuming cleanup continues.
