Four winners of the California Lottery were announced on Thursday, collectively claiming $5 million in prizes, including two big winners from Southern California.
Hermilo Ruiz won the top prize of $2 million after purchasing the winning Instant Prize Crossword Scratchers ticket from Valencia Liquor & Wine in Santa Clarita. The store received a $10,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
John Tyree in Hawthorne won $1 million after purchasing a winning California Jackpot Scratchers ticket from a CVS Pharmacy.
The other two winners are from Daly City and San Martin in Northern California. They also won $1 million each.
According to the California Lottery, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary, it has given more than $48 billion to public schools since 1985.
