Now a year removed from her separation from Joe Jonas, Sophie Turner can reflect on her marriage and all that came with it.

Now living in west London after moving to the United States with Jonas, Turner, 28, has embraced motherhood and is focused on setting an example for her two daughters, Willa and Delphine, who she shares with Jonas.

“Before I had kids, I was very depressed and anxious, and I would isolate [myself] a lot,” she told Harper’s Bazaar in a story published Wednesday, October 30. “Now, I think I live my life for them. I want them to see me having a social life and enjoying work and thriving in my career and relationships.”

It took a lot for Turner to get there. Jonas filed for divorce in September 2023, setting off a custody battle and legal proceedings that remain ongoing. Reflecting on the past year, Turner says her latest project, “kind of a horror film” with her Game of Thrones costar Kit Harrington, mirrored her real-life experience.

“It was a very cathartic experience for me,” she said. “It was a chance to let out some serious anger, which was fun. So that felt right for me to do.”

Though she has now moved on from her relationship with Jonas, Turner can look back on the good times.

“I’m going through a legal process right now where I can’t really say much, but it was incredibly sad,” she said. “We had a beautiful relationship, and it was hard.”

One of the toughest parts of that time in her life was being away from home. She and Jonas married in Las Vegas, then lived together in Los Angeles and Miami.

Jonas and Turner were married for four years before news broke of their split in September 2023. The former couple previously welcomed daughter Willa in 2020 and another baby girl in 2022, […]

“I’m so happy to be back. It felt as if my life was on pause until I returned to England,” she said. “I just never really feel like myself when I’m not in London, with my friends and family. I was away for so long — six years — and it was when my friends were getting engaged, and when I got pregnant. I went for dinner with someone the other day, and she said, ‘I never got to touch your belly.’ We didn’t have those key experiences with each other.”

The homesickness was real, and she coped with it the same way most anyone would — with food that reminded her of home.

“Every city we ended up in, the first thing I’d do was find a British shop and stock up on a month’s worth of chocolate,” she said, before adding that the events unfolding around her soon became overwhelming.

“The gun violence, Roe v. Wade being overturned … Everything just kind of piled on,” she added. “After the Uvalde [school] shooting, I knew it was time to get the f— out of there.”
