A classic little black dress—that’s LBD in fashion speak—will never go out of style, so it’s no wonder that so many celebrities choose it for their various red carpet appearances. In an arena that’s so dissected and scrutinized, a sleek black dress is always a safe choice; It’s hard to look like a fashion victim in such a timeless design. But that’s not to say an LBD has to be boring, either. As demonstrated by Selena Gomez in London earlier today, a stealthy frock can still make a statement, and even feel extremely current.

In town to promote her new film Emilia Pérez (which is getting rave reviews, by the way), Gomez hit the photo call step and repeat in a striking fall 2024 design by Schiaparelli. The sleeveless column gown was streamlined and well-cut, with a dash of visual interested via a golden key cutout at the bust. (The key cutout has become a key Schiaparelli motif.) That surreal twist added just the right amount of pop to the look—giving it an update that felt modern and unique.
This latest look from Gomez plays into her refined, pared-back style as of late. Working with stylist Erin Walsh, the star has been leaning into elegant black skirt suits and mini dresses that prove an all-black ensemble can still pop. Stealthy-chic dressing for the win.
