SANTA MONICA, Calif. () — The Santa Monica Airport is slated to close in 2028, and city officials have released preliminary plans for a large public park that would replace the facility.
The early design concepts feature trails, bike paths and fitness equipment across the future open space.
About $500,000 in grant funding has been secured by the city to support the park’s planning and design.
The money comes through a Los Angeles County initiative aimed at improving open spaces in the region.
Santa Monica is now gathering public feedback on the proposal. Residents can offer input through April 26 at smacproject.com.
