PASADENA, Calif. () — If you’ve got plans to go to the Rose Parade this year, bring your poncho and umbrella because it could rain during the parade for the first time in 20 years.

Rain chances will develop starting New Year’s Eve and are set to increase the next two days. However, organizers are ready. Last week’s storm didn’t impact the construction of the floats since that’s all done indoors.

Organizers say the water just adds a little more weight to the floats.

“Hopefully, we’re going to keep the rain away, but if it does come, these floats are built to withstand a little extra weight,” said Stefan Pollack, spokesperson for Artistic Entertainment Services. “So the flowers will absorb like they do in nature and will just take on 5% more weight.”

Eyewitness News got to see some of the progress on Monday morning and so far, all the dry material has been placed on the floats, but the floral arrangements will be placed later in the day.

Fans, however, will likely show up to the parade – rain or shine. You can watch the full Rose Parade on New Year’s Day starting at 8 a.m. on 7.
