LOS ANGELES () — Billionaire developer Rick Caruso is reconsidering his decision on whether to run for elected office this year, Eyewitness News has learned.

The development comes after a Los Angeles Times report that claims Mayor Karen Bass directed the watering down of an after-action report on the Palisades Fire.

Bass’ office has vehemently denied the report, calling it “muckraking journalism at its lowest form.”

“Mayor Bass has been unequivocal for months – she reviewed an early draft of the report and only asked the LAFD to make sure it was accurate on issues like weather and budget. She and her staff made no changes to the drafts,” a statement from Bass’ office said in part.

The Times said it stands by its reporting.

Caruso responded to the Times’ report on social media, saying Bass “completely failed us.”

The real estate mogul announced last month that he would not run for California governor or L.A. mayor.

Caruso only has a few days to decide if he wants to challenge Bass because the deadline to file a declaration of intention for the June primary election is noon Saturday.
