HERMOSA BEACH, Calif. () — A possible homicide investigation is underway in Hermosa Beach after an hourslong standoff at a home on The Strand.
It started with a call for a welfare check around 12:30 p.m. for someone who reportedly lived alone at the home on The Strand near Beach Street and Sixth Street.
Hermosa Beach police said someone barricaded themselves inside the home when officers arrived and claimed they were armed. The SWAT team and crisis negotiators were called to the scene.
After about seven hours, the person finally came out and was immediately detained, according to Hermosa Beach police. Officers then found a person dead inside the home.
It’s still not clear how the person in custody and the person found dead are connected.
