IRVINE, Calif. () — One person was killed and several others were injured late Thursday night in a crash involving a Caltrans contractor on the 405 Freeway in Irvine, authorities said.

It happened around 10:45 p.m. on the southbound lanes at MacArthur Boulevard.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the driver of an SUV was seen speeding and crashed into the Caltrans contractor’s truck.

One person in the SUV died, but it’s unclear if that person was the driver or a passenger.

Caltrans said one contractor was injured in the crash.

“Our thoughts are with the contractor who was injured while working on behalf of Caltrans and everyone impacted in this incident,” Caltrans said in a statement.

Four other people were sent to a local hospital in unknown conditions.

“This serves as reminder to all drivers to slow down and move over when approaching construction zones and Caltrans maintenance operations on our state highway system,” Caltrans said.

This is a developing story. This article will continue to be updated as more information becomes available.
