NORTHRIDGE, LOS ANGELES () — An off-duty ICE agent shot and killed a man who allegedly shot at him with a long rifle in Northridge, according to police.
The deadly shooting happened at an apartment complex on Roscoe Boulevard around 10:45 p.m. Wednesday, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
In a statement, the Department of Homeland Security said the ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations officer was in his apartment when he heard what he believed to be multiple gunshots, which apparently sounded like they were getting louder and closer.
The agent took his “ICE authorized firearm” and went outside.
“As the officer rounded the corner of a building within the apartment complex, he encountered a male subject armed with what appeared to be a long rifle,” the DHS statement said.
Once he identified himself as law enforcement, the suspect allegedly pointed his weapon at the agent and refused to put it down.
The agent fired his weapon, and the suspect fired at least three rounds back, authorities said.
The agent went back to his apartment to get his body armor and called police. When LAPD officers arrived, they found the suspect dead.
The off-duty ICE agent was not injured.
LAPD and DHS are both investigating the deadly shooting.
