Mike Carroll has opened up about his father George Carroll’s disappearance as part of Investigation Discovery’s new documentary The Secrets We Bury — and he considers the possibility that he was murdered in a teaser clip shared exclusively with Us Weekly.
The upcoming doc will feature interviews with Mike and his siblings as they look back at their father’s disappearance in the 1960s. In a new teaser clip, Mike recalled a conversation with a psychic medium in which he realized his father might have been murdered.
Mike explained that he initially met with the medium to talk to his late mother, Dorothy Carroll. However, they were not able to communicate with her spirit and Mike admitted to feeling discouraged about the experience. As he spoke with the psychic about his disappointment, he said he “just wanted to know where” his father was.
He remembered the medium saying, “When it comes to the ‘M word,’ you normally don’t say anything until you give me the permission to do it.”
When the medium confirmed that the “M word” was murder, Mike said it was the very first time he started to believe his missing father may have been killed. “I go, ‘OK, now you got my attention,’” he recalled telling the medium.
After Mike asked the medium where his father was, she said he was “in the basement.” He continued, “She goes, ‘He’s down to the left, to the rear, underneath the target.’ I went, ‘Holy s–t.’”
Mike quickly realized what the medium meant by “the target,” explaining that there was a gun range in his family’s basement with a target when he was 4 years old. “There was a target for shooting bullets down there, pellets,” he said. “It was taken out of there, like, when I was very young.”
He noted that the psychic knew something that happened nearly 60 years earlier “that nobody knew about,” which he said was “impressive.”
“And then, of course, I asked, ‘Who did it?’” Mike said as the conversation about his father’s alleged murder continued. However, the teaser clip concluded before Mike could reveal what the medium actually said about who may have killed his father.
The upcoming documentary about George’s disappearance will include extensive sit-down interviews with his family members, as well as intimate archival footage that captured the family over several decades. Throughout the conversations, Mike and his siblings will reveal family drama and updates about their father’s disappearance that no one could have imagined.

The Secrets We Bury is scheduled to premiere on Tuesday, December 16, at 9 pm ET on the ID Channel. Those who miss the premiere will be able to watch the documentary on HBO Max.
