LOS ANGELES () — A man died after he was struck by a car and a Metro bus Friday on the 110 Harbor Freeway in South Los Angeles after he stepped out of his car following a separate head-on crash, authorities said.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the man’s vehicle was heading south on the northbound express lanes near Century Boulevard just after 5 a.m. when he collided with a cargo van.

That is when the man got out of his vehicle and was struck by a car and an out-of-service Metro bus. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Metro said in a statement that “an out-of-service Metro Bus line 210 heading northbound on the 110 freeway north of Century Boulevard, struck a body that had been ejected from an earlier, non-Metro vehicle accident. Metro extends its deepest sympathies to the victim’s family and friends.”

A SigAlert was issued at 5:33 a.m. closing all northbound lanes for approximately three hours. It was cancelled and all lanes reopened around 8:35 a.m.

It is unclear what factors led up to the crash. No further details were immediately available.
