LONG BEACH, Calif. () — A suspect armed with a pellet gun was taken into custody Thursday following a police shooting in Long Beach.
It happened just after 1:30 p.m. in the 5500 block of Atlantic Avenue. Police said someone reported seeing a person with a gun inside a business.
“Upon arrival, officers contacted the suspect who was in possession of what appeared to be a firearm outside of the business,” said police in a statement. “Officers directed the suspect to drop the firearm. An officer discharged their service weapon.”
The suspect, who has not been identified, was not struck and immediately surrendered, police said. He has since been taken into custody.
Initial reports indicated that one person was transported to a local hospital but police confirmed that no one, including officers, were injured. The pellet gun was also taken by police.
The police department said it’s in the process of reviewing officers’ body camera footage and said it will ultimately be made public.
