If there’s one thing Missy Elliott is going to do it’s work it (and put her thang down, flip it, and reverse it). The rapper got her freak on last night at Burberry’s Temple Bar takeover—aptly renamed the Knight Bar— wearing an outfit that, while clearly Burberry, still stayed true to her personal style.
The Grammy winner wore a floor-length trench coat in Burberry’s signature plaid motif, in a rich emerald green colorway with yellow, brown, and white plaid. She wore the sweeping outerwear over a pair of matching green leggings and black leather moto boots. With her accessories, Elliott continued the oversized theme, wearing an enormous, blinged out diamond necklace and extra large Simone I. Smith hoop earrings, which have been a mainstay in her wardrobe throughout her career.
It was Elliott’s hat, though, that grounded her outfit in her own personal style. She wore an oversized white furry hat that eclipsed most of her head. Her headwear continued one of her longstanding signature looks, the fuzzy hat, albeit in an exaggerated form. While faux-fur hats in particular have been on-trend over the last several years, Elliott has been a longtime supporter of the look, from the bucket hat on the cover of 2002’s Under Construction, to the newsboy she rocked at the 2003 Grammys, and the bucket and fedora she wore during fashion week in 2005 to the Baby Phat and Diesel shows, respectively.
So whether she’s in a funky Burberry trench coat or an Adidas tracksuit, Missy Elliott proves that, in her fuzzy hats, she will always look supa dupa fly.
