Kristin Chenoweth, who originated the role of Glinda in the Broadway production of Wicked, has spoken out against a boycott petition from the conservative group One Million Moms, which criticizes the new movie adaptation.

The petition, launched ahead of the film’s release, claims Wicked promotes “witchcraft, sorcery, and wokeness,” pointing to alleged crossdressing and LGBTQ+ themes. It urges parents to avoid taking their children to the movie and its forthcoming sequel.

“Instead of an uplifting Broadway musical about friendship and family, talents and resources were used to create a dark movie that also pushes wokeness,” reads the petition.

Chenoweth, who has a cameo in the Wicked movie, didn’t hold back in her response after seeing the petition highlighted by Out Magazine.

“Everyone knows the ‘One Million Moms’ are a mere few hundred. Maybe,” she commented on Instagram. “It’s called entertainment. Artistry.”

The Tony Award-winning actress, who noted she herself is Christian, condemned the group’s actions as divisive and misinformed. “No no no. I can’t help it: I try to love ’em anyway,” she wrote, adding, “For they don’t get it.”

Chenoweth and Idina Menzel, the original Elphaba, both make cameo appearances in the film, performing the fan-favorite number “One Short Day.”

The second installment, Wicked: For Good, is set for release on November 21st, 2025.
