Jessica Simpson and her estranged husband, Eric Johnson, are on good terms one year after their split.
“They’re not considering getting back together, but they have love and respect for each other,” a source exclusively tells Us Weekly, shooting down a recent report that the former couple are working toward reconciling their romance.
The insider explains that Simpson, 45, and Johnson, 46, “are in no rush to file for divorce,” as they are “focusing on their kids right now and will always put them first.”
The pair, who wed in July 2014, share three children: daughters Maxwell, 13, and Birdie, 6, and son Ace, 12.
Simpson announced in January that she and Johnson were “living separately” while “navigating a painful situation” in their 10-year marriage.
“Our children come first, and we are focusing on what is best for them,” she added in a statement to Us at the time. “We are grateful for all of the love and support that has been coming our way and appreciate privacy right now as we work through this as a family.”
Since then, Simpson has staged a musical comeback, releasing a two-part EP titled Nashville Canyon that featured songs about “unholy matrimony” (“Leave”) and “empty” promises (“Fade”).
Despite the emotional lyrics hinting at their marital breakdown, Simpson and Johnson have continued to put on a united front, attending her sister Ashlee Simpson‘s Las Vegas residency kickoff in August and even spending Thanksgiving together in November. The source tells Us that the duo also plan to celebrate Christmas as a family at Jessica’s mom Tina Simpson‘s home.
A big part of Jessica’s healing journey while separated from Johnson was her return to the stage after a 15-year hiatus, according to the source.
“She loved performing these last couple months and being up close and personal with her fans,” the insider says, adding that Jessica also “loved that fans connected to her new songs and can’t wait for more performances in 2026.”
Although Jessica is open to dating again (she told Extra in October that she is “into younger men at the moment”), the source shares with Us that the “With You” singer and Johnson “are both still single and living separately.”
Us Weekly has reached out to Jessica’s rep for comment.
Prior to Johnson, Jessica was married to her Newlyweds costar Nick Lachey from October 2002 to June 2006. She also famously dated John Mayer and Tony Romo.
“I can handle so much,” she told People in February about going through heartbreak. “Maybe I’m just meant to love a lot of people in my life.”
Jessica continued, “I don’t know why my heart gets tossed around, but I’m one of the lucky ones. At least I have my children, and I still have Eric. He’s still very much a part of my life and will always be.”
