ANAHEIM, Calif. () — An innocent driver was among two people killed in a crash involving several vehicles in Anaheim early Tuesday morning.

The collision happened just before 1 a.m. at Anaheim Boulevard and Lincoln Avenue, but police were still trying to piece together what exactly happened.

“One of our officers saw a silver Infiniti sedan driving erratically in the area of Cypress Street and Harbor Boulevard, which is just a couple blocks around the corner,” said Sgt. Matt Sutter. “Our officers tried to catch up to that vehicle to conduct an enforcement stop, and the driver turned off his lights, took off, and we never actually caught up to the vehicle.”

One eyewitness named Antonio Castaneda said he saw police chasing that vehicle before hearing the loud crash. Sutter maintained that officers were never in pursuit.

Just moments after police lost sight of the erratic driver, Sutter said the silver sedan crashed with three other cars at the nearby intersection.

Of the two people killed in the crash, one was the front right passenger of that Infiniti. Three other people were inside that car and are in critical condition.

The other person killed was an innocent driver of a red Toyota Camry at the scene. That victim was only described as an adult man.

The people inside the other two cars involved had minor injuries.

It’s unclear if drugs or alcohol played a factor in the crash. An investigation is underway.
