Beto’s 95th minute header salvaged a point for Everton as Sean Dyche’s side drew 1-1 against Fulham at Goodison Park.

Former Toffee Alex Iwobi had given the visitors the lead just after the hour mark with a tidy finish just inside the box following an excellent run from Emile Smith-Rowe.

Everton looked to be heading for a first defeat in five games until Ashley Young’s cushioned volley across the six-yard box was nodded home by Beto.

The result sees Everton climb up to 15th, a point ahead of West Ham who host Manchester United on Sunday. Marco Silva’s side, who are now winless in three, return to tenth as they go level on points with Newcastle and Bournemouth.

The visitors were the better side for much of the contest as they dominated the ball and relentlessly pressed Everton high up the pitch.

Despite this, it was Dyche’s men who came closest to open the scoring in the opening period as Idrissa Gueye’s curling effort crashed off the crossbar.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who had a largely frustrating evening, tucked home the rebound but had his celebrations cut short as he saw the flag was correctly raised.

Former Arsenal duo Smith-Rowe and Iwobi had squandered chances towards the end of the opening period but combined excellently to break the deadlock.

Smith Rowe picked the ball up inside his own half before skipping past a number of challenges to find Iwobi on the edge of the box. The former Everton man broke into the box before producing a brilliantly disguised finish inside the near post after shaping his body to curl his effort into the right corner.

Despite taking the lead, Fulham continued to dominate proceedings with another Arsenal graduate in Reiss Nelson impressing from the bench.

The Toffees struggled to create anything of note for the entire second half until substitute Beto was on hand to head home and earn Everton a perhaps undeserved point.

Nonetheless, the result extends their impressive unbeaten record to five games after losing their opening four fixtures of the campaign, with a trip to Southampton up next for Dyche’s side.

Fulham meanwhile, have a west-London Derby in store next Monday as they look for their first win in four when they host Brentford.

Talking Point – A day of late drama in the Premier League

Beto’s late equaliser was the fourth goal in the five games played in the Premier League on Saturday to be scored after the 90th minute.

Not only this but all four goals changed the outcome of the ties with Bryan Mbuemo scoring a late winner for Brentford against Ipswich, Evanilson equalising for Bournemouth against Aston Villa and Matheus Cunha’s late strike salavging a draw for Wolves against Brighton.

For Everton, these extra minutes were crucial because for 90 minutes the atmosphere around Goodison was a flat one as they watched their side really struggling to create anything clear-cut.

Meanwhile, Fulham demonstrated their weakness in protecting leads, having now dropped 10 points from winning positions this season.

Player of the Match – Alex Iwobi (Fulham)

Alex Iwobi looked set to haunt his old side as his magnificent goal looked certain to make the difference and seal the three points.

Despite Beto’s heroics taking the shine off Fulham’s performance, Iwobi had already vacated the pitch after a terrific display in terms of pressing, forward passing into the final third and producing a wonderful finish to take the lead.

He also went inches away from returning the favour to Emile Smith Rowe as his clever volleyed cross ran just behind the midfielder ready to tap in for two.
