They painted the town pink.

The sky in an English town mysteriously turned a bright shade of pink this week, and the dazzling sight caused quite a stir.

During a snowfall on Thursday, residents in the county of West Midlands in central England witnessed the sky suddenly glowing in the pinkish hue.

The unexpected swirl of color turned out to be LED lights set up by local soccer club Hednesford Town FC to assist with the growth of grass at their stadiums.

“Seems the ‘northern lights’ over Hednesford were a bit closer to home than we all thought,” Hednesford Town FC explained in an Instagram post.

“That pink glow in the sky was in fact our LED pitch lights helping the grass grow and recover, keeping us ready to chase three points, not the aurora … Who knew a bit of pitch care could create so much interest!”

“I didn’t even know we had this equipment, proper premier league,” one impressed resident commented.

“You had the whole of the town fooled … So funny,” another added.

One troll wasn’t impressed by the light show.

“I wonder what the local residents around the stadium think about this light pollution,” they pondered.
